Review: New El Paso – Mexican cocktails, beer and food – Old Street, Hoxton, London
November 26th, 2010 § 2 Comments
Old Street’s premier Mexploitation bar El Paso has just been refurbished with help from design firm Aberrant Architecture.
Formerly famous for being a dive bar with right-on margaritas and microwave Tex-Mex, the East London bar’s now got a clean new interior, freshly-made bar snacks… and average Margaritas.
The decor’s still got a relaxed feel about it – chipboard, massive cut-outs of moustaches and guns, and bare pendant lightbulbs.
But now it’s also the kind of place that you could freelance in during the day. There’s wi-fi, coffee, and a bookshelf of magazines by day – by night, you can enjoy Estrella and Modelo beer, unpretentious margarita on the rocks, and TexMex tapas in finger-bowls.
By the looks of things, the bar will be a big hit with local creatives – lots of illustrators at the opening night. And now Green & Red’s shut down, tequila’s in short supply round here. Have you salsa’ed through El Paso’s door yet?
